Prosecutor General Justice (Retired) Uz. Abbas Shareef held official discussions with Prosecutor General of China Mr. Ying Yong at the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) in Beijing today.
The Deputy Prosecutor Generals of both countries, along with senior officials from both offices, took part in the discussions.
During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence in prosecution. The two Prosecutor Generals highlighted the existing close relationship between the SPP and PGO and discussed areas in which cooperation between the two offices could be further strengthened.
Following the discussions, the two Prosecutor Generals signed the 'Agreement on Cooperation between the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Maldives'.
The Agreement renews and replaces the cooperation agreement signed between the two offices in May 2017. It provides a framework for assigning prosecutors for professional research and training, as well as for cooperation or assistance in other areas mutually agreed upon by the two offices. It also provides for the protection of confidential information exchanged under the Agreement.
The Agreement marks a further step in strengthening the existing relationship between the SPP and PGO and advancing practical cooperation, professional development, and the exchange of knowledge and experience.
