The Prosecutor General's Office is an independent institution established to oversee all criminal prosecutions and to assist the Prosecutor General in fulfilling his mandated duties and responsibilities.

Prosecutor General Justice (Rtd) Uz. Abbas Shareef
Justice (Rtd) Uz. Abbas Shareef is the 5th Prosecutor General of the Maldives. With a prestigious career in law and public service, he has previously served as the Secretary to the President for Legal and Parliamentary Affairs at the President’s Office and as a board member of the Maldives International Financial Services Authority. Bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, PG Abbas Shareef leads the Prosecutor General’s Office into a new chapter focused on strengthening the delivery of justice and public service.
Aim
To perform the responsibilities assigned to the Prosecutor General’s Office promptly, with equality, honesty, integrity, and free from influence.
Vision
To uphold the rule of law and provide transparent and equitable representation of the State in the criminal justice system.

A delegation of 15 (fifteen) prosecutors from the Prosecutor General’s Office is traveling to India to participate in a two week specialized training programme on investigation and prosecution matters at Rashtriya Raksha University, India, from 18 to 29 August 2025. The programme, conducted under the Government of India’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC)initiative, covers a wide range of areas including international human rights law, maritime law, piracy and maritime security, conflict resolution, and behavioral approaches to law and policy. The training is designed to strengthen prosecutorial skills and enhance regional cooperation in combating transnational crime. The Prosecutor General Justice (Retired) Uz. Abbas Shareef extends his sincere appreciation to the Government of India and the High Commission of India in Maldives for facilitating this important capacity building opportunity, which will further contribute to strengthening the criminal justice system of the Maldives.
