Prosecutor General Calls for Stronger Global Action Against Technology-Enabled Fraud

A delegation of 15 (fifteen) prosecutors from the Prosecutor General’s Office is traveling to India to participate in a two week specialized training programme on investigation and prosecution matters at Rashtriya Raksha University, India, from 18 to 29 August 2025. The programme, conducted under the Government of India’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC)initiative, covers a wide range of areas including international human rights law, maritime law, piracy and maritime security, conflict resolution, and behavioral approaches to law and policy. The training is designed to strengthen prosecutorial skills and enhance regional cooperation in combating transnational crime. The Prosecutor General Justice (Retired) Uz. Abbas Shareef extends his sincere appreciation to the Government of India and the High Commission of India in Maldives for facilitating this important capacity building opportunity, which will further contribute to strengthening the criminal justice system of the Maldives.

Prosecutor General Justice (Retired) Uz. Abbas Shareef has appointed Professor Jeremy Gans of Melbourne Law School as the Honorary Advisor to the Prosecutor General’s Academy. Professor Gans is a leading legal academic in Australia, specializing in criminal justice and evidence law. He teaches the subject Evidence and Proof in the Melbourne JD program and has authored and co-authored several influential texts, including Uniform Evidence (2025) and Teaching Evidence Law: Contemporary Trends and Innovation. His research spans fact-finding in sexual assault trials, DNA identification, and procedural rights in criminal law. In 2007, he was appointed Human Rights Adviser to the Victorian Parliament’s Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee, contributing to legislative review and human rights advocacy. His work continues to shape legal education and reform in Australia. This role was conferred in recognition of his distinguished academic contributions and his willingness to support the Academy’s mission to advance prosecutorial standards and promote the rule of law in Maldives. We are confident that his expertise and experience will be of immense value to our institutional development, particularly in elevating our academic and training frameworks at this crucial inception stage. We believe that this appointment would further strengthen the bond between Australia and Maldives and lead to future academic collaboration in this field.
