About the Academy
The Prosecutor General's Academy is the training and professional development arm of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The Academy supplements training of prosecutors, supports the upskilling of corporate and administrative staff, and promotes collaboration with state institutions, community stakeholders and international partners. It also supports the implementation of section 16 of the Prosecutor General's Act by facilitating the continuous professional development of staff.
Objectives
The Academy aims to:
- Strengthen professional capacity of prosecutors and staff.
- Organise and facilitate training programmes for prosecutors, corporate and administrative staff.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among institutions within the criminal justice system.
- Strengthen inter-institutional relationships and encourage a coordinated approach to the administration of justice.
- Organise workshops, seminars and other collaborative programmes with key stakeholders to discuss challenges, share best practices and improve coordination across the criminal justice system.
Training and Professional Development
The Academy plans, organises and oversees training programmes for all members of the Prosecutor General's Office, including prosecutors, support staff, human resource personnel and administrative staff.
Training programmes include:
- Induction programmes for newly appointed prosecutors.
- Mandatory training programmes for all staff.
- Professional development programmes for prosecutors.
- Section-specific specialised training.
- Training for corporate and administrative staff.
- Opportunities for training offered through partner agencies.
The Academy provides a structured curriculum consisting of mandatory programmes, optional programmes and department-specific programmes tailored to the specialised needs of individual departments and prosecution sections.
Research
The Academy promotes research that contributes to the development of prosecutorial practice, evidence-based policymaking and the strengthening of the rule of law.
Drawing on criminal justice data and institutional knowledge available within the Prosecutor General's Office, the Academy supports research relating to criminal justice trends and issues. It also facilitates research conferences and provides a platform for justice sector stakeholders, educational institutions and legal professionals to share research findings and contribute to policy and legislative development.
Trainers
Training programmes are delivered by qualified members of the Prosecutor General's Office with expertise in their respective fields, together with experienced trainers from stakeholder institutions.
The Academy also develops the capacity of its trainers through training in effective presentation and instructional skills to ensure consistency and quality in programme delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement
The Academy serves as a platform for continuous engagement, learning and collaboration between Prosecutor General's Office and its stakeholders.
National Engagement
The Academy organises and facilitates training programmes delivered by the Prosecutor General's Office for stakeholders, as well as stakeholder-led programmes for PGO staff. These initiatives promote mutual learning, strengthen institutional relationships and improve coordination across the criminal justice system.
International Engagement
The Academy works with international partners to strengthen prosecutorial standards through access to global expertise, resources and best practices.
International engagement includes cooperation in areas such as anti-corruption, cybercrime, counterterrorism and money laundering, participation in international conferences and professional networks, and collaboration with overseas institutions through training and exchange programmes.
